About "The Three Graces"

I was at the Santa Barbara Museum and saw a bas relief of the Three Graces over a doorway. I thought to myself, "The Three Graces" are represented in many different ways. I thought it would be great to have a version with the vaudeville, radio, and TV personality Gracie Allen as one of the three. Who else? Why the beautiful actress and royal, Princess Grace Kelly. The third? Why, the striking singer and actress Grace Jones, of course.

I soon figured out by showing them on a stage with a backdrop of the Caryatid Porch of the Erechtheion, Athens would tie in both show business and the classical theme.

I had to paint this fun twist on the classical theme, but it had to be big and impressive to make it's point. I painted the ladies in oil on a 5 foot by 6 foot stretched linen that would make them seem near life-sized.

A formally dressed lady posed in front of "The Three Graces" for a photograph by her husband during the black tie opening of Art Monaco 2015.

The Three Graces Featured at Art Monaco 2015

I was honored to be asked by an Italian dealer to show "The Three Graces" at Art Monaco 2015. This was a great Art Fair in a fabulous location on the French Riviera. At the Black Tie opening of the show this lady posed in front of the painting and had her husband photograph her – very fun.
